Can you tell us more about you and what you do?
I am an art director and digital illustrator based in Singapore. Throughout the years, I have had the honor of working with brands such as Adobe, Google, The Times of London, Clinique, Samsung, and Shake Shack. I perceive my work as a blend of graphic design and art, serving as a bridge between functionality and aesthetics.
Every artwork tells a story. What inspired your cover design, what narrative or message are you conveying through your cover design, and can you share the creative process that led to its final form?
There are no rules to keeping a journal; it can be anything you want! That's why I've decorated this journal with a few of my favorite things, from a simple sunny side up to a leisurely cycling trip. I hope this journal will be filled with equally delightful things.
How does creativity connect to self-expression for you?
I believe that self expression and creativity are two sides of the same coin - one can't exist without the other. Through art, I can share things that I otherwise might not be able to put into words.
In your perspective, what role does creativity play in empowering individuals and communities, and how have you witnessed this power in action?
I've always been drawn to creating minimalist artworks because I love simple things that work.
In your perspective, what role does creativity play in empowering individuals and communities, and how have you witnessed this power in action?
Creativity is especially empowering when used for problem solving. For example: using recycled materials to create art (thus playing a part in the green economy), etc. Creativity is empowering when it has real world impact and exists beyond the traditional paper and pen.
Have you faced any challenges in maintaining your individuality in your work, especially in the face of trends or external expectations? How did you overcome them?
I see trends and external expectations as multipliers to my work. Instead of insisting on only doing things a certain way, I aspire to be an artist who can adapt, grow, and meet others halfway so we can create meaningful work together.
What advice would you give to emerging artists who are trying to find and express their individuality through their work?
I believe that individuality comes naturally to most artists, even though they might not be conscious of it. Drawing often and learning to identify similar motifs and patterns in my works have helped me discover my own artistic style.
What’s the one thing you want to accomplish this year?
This year I want to focus on learning new skills and doing more personal works. Maybe spend more time with loved ones too!
