About The Artist
Kamwei’s animal-themed art centres on a goldfish named Bo, and a series of furry animal illustrations known as The Furry Thing. His work carries a sense of playfulness and an optimistic outlook on everyday life, with “Be Happy. Be Childlike. Be Ridiculous” as the core spirit of his creations. The philosophy has resonated amongst fans, buyers and collectors, who happily display his art in their homes across Asia, Europe, and the US. Kamwei’s work has also appeared in collaborations with local and international brands and art collectives. His creations are often described as poetic, humourous, imaginative, playful and dream-like.
Since founding Bo&Friends in 2010, Kamwei has been invited to exhibit at an array of events, including Kuala Lumpur Design Week and George Town Festival. In 2017, he held his first solo exhibition in Malaysia, followed by a second solo exhibition in Paris. Kamwei was also the first Malaysian artist to be invited to hold a solo exhibition at Isetan The Japan Store’s Free Art Space. An installation of his Paper Bo artwork is on permanent display at KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre) and was also installed at Colorplan’s official launch in Malaysia. Currently, his art prints and ceramic sculptures can be found in Galerie Club Sensible in Paris.
