FNF – Valen Lim
Meet Valen Lim Chong Chin 林中雋 — a Kuala Lumpur-based graphic designer and illustrator. He dabbles in various fields, such as brand identity, print graphics, typography, and illustration. His works are heavily influenced by local heritage yet emboldened by a modernist flair.

What’s the FNF cover story behind ana tomy x Valen Lim ?
When ana tomy invited me to part of their FNF project, I decided to do something fun and lighthearted. The front cover features a flower inspired by an all-green jumpsuit and headpiece worn by Cardi B to Paris Fashion Week in 2021, where she looked like a bright green curvaceous flower!
What inspires you for the back cover’s illustration ?
The notebook’s back cover is a drawing of an anthropomorphic bird wearing clown shoes. For this image, I was inspired by the shadow cast on my studio door handle, which looks like a busy bird walking very big steps! Many of my designs are inspired by random, everyday observations like this, which I exaggerate to create something quirky and fun.
What’s the story of the book spine?
I left my signature on the spine, with some geometric shapes and the word 木 (Chinese: wood) twice, which makes up my surname, Lim: 林.”
